Brand new from Circus Records this year! Fresh track ‘Only U’ by Shapes and The Arcturians. Shapes has worked on many projects this past year, getting the production credits on tracks featuring a variety of artists on styles ranging from Drum & Bass, grime, house and hip-hop. There was certainly no stopping Shapes in 2021 and with ‘Only U’ 2022 is already getting off to a great start. This track starts a bit slower and later it really brings the heat withs its fun, high energy, electronic dancefloor vibes, unique sounds and solid bassline. Shapes is described as one of the most versatile producers around at the minute and brings the upbeat, electronic dance vibe to this track which pairs amazingly well with The Arcturians beautifully soft, feminine vocals and strong, dark, dystopian melodies. This track is incredible and definitely one I could listen to all day. Check it out below!
For Shapes it all started with the infamous #GASMinimix videos in 2016, but it wasn’t long before Shapes was producing some of the biggest bassline and bass house bootlegs of recent times, culminating with the all-conquering official remix of TC’s drum & bass anthem ‘Tap Ho’, included on the scene snapshot ‘Pure Bassline Anthems’. Signed to homegrown international label sensation Circus Records, recent releases ‘No Manners’, ‘Our Time’ and the collaboration ‘Cold Individual’ with Doctor P have all seen wide support from acts across bass music - bass institution UKF even choosing two Shapes productions for their ‘Bass Culture 4’ compilation. Shapes is also one of the most versatile producers around. As well as the nasty, bass heavy dancefloor originals, Shapes has also produced for some well known vocal artists - most notably the majority of Bru-C’s second album ‘Smile’ (as well as Bru-C’s recent hit singles ‘Take Control’ and ‘Hideout’), talented singer/songwriter Paige Eliza’s debut single, and most of Genesis Elijah’s recent releases - Genesis crediting Shapes for his recent success. There’s also production credits on records featuring Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Example, Local, PAV4N (Foreign Beggars), Manga, Scotty Stacks (The Manor) and many others.
The Arcturians bring a new sound to bass music with beautifully ominous vocals which accompany strong melodies reminiscent of a dark future. Drawing influence from Skrillex, Nero, and Zeds Dead, their productions range from the styles of dubstep, drum and bass, and heavy trap. Their sound is easily translatable onto a range of subgenera, thus making it appealing to a wider audience. Their enigmatic, vocally driven music gives them an edge in the bass music scene, creating a mysteriously intriguing sonic environment evocative of a looming futuristic dystopia.
